Why I decided to go on Erasmus+

When I was in secondary school and high school, time after time I heard that some people go abroad to study on Erasmus+. After getting to know what it is and hearing their stories I understood that it is something that I also would like to try when my time will come. What is Erasmus+ ? Check out my previous post.

Unless you really want to spend your semester at your home university, there should be no other reason why you shouldn’t go to spend it abroad.

I remember how challenging it was for me. Firstly because of my family. That was the first time when I was abroad for such a long time. And such a long time without seeing my family. The second challenge was the studies. I remember that I was a little bit worried about studying in English. I was not that sure if I could understand everything. Because imagine, sometimes you don’t even understand something that is written or said in your mother tongue. But I was brave enough to try. I saw how many people go on Erasmus+, study in a different language and then they arrive and say that it was amazing. I also wanted to experience that!

Then I started to study in university and already, in the beginning, I made a research about people who went on Erasmus+ from my faculty. I tried to get to know when is the best time when to go and where is the best place where to go. Of course, I received many different answers so I just had to decide on my own. There is no one correct way to do it. Each of us has different priorities.

But there was one thing I was sure about! I have always wanted to go on Erasmus+! But it is not easy to get there. Firstly you have to prove that you have earned to go because there is a contest. You have to have good marks, have a good motivation and prove that your English is good enough. Then you might get a chance to go on Erasmus+!

So I decided that the best time for me will be to go on my third year of studies. At first I was about to go for one semester but in the end, I stayed there for the whole year. Once I got the chance, I used it. It was important to choose the right place where to go. I mean, to choose the university where you can find similar subjects like in your home university.

At first, I wanted to go on 2nd year’s 2nd semester to Porto. In the end, destiny decided that I should go on the 3rd year, for both semesters. So I had Erasmus for whole study year. It was amazing! Of course, it is okay to go just for 1 semester, but for me, it was not enough!

Erasmus+ is probably the best decision I have ever made. It kind of changed my life afterward.
People I met showed me so many different things, they also taught a lot! I definitely couldn’t get this experience any other way. Everything is okay to try, it is just that you have to think with your head.

I met so many people from different countries. It was so easy to make friends there! I wish I could see them again and again! We live kind of far from each other but the world has become small for me so I think that once I will have a possibility, I will go on trips to visit them! And now I have so many homes in different countries and even different continents. I really feel that I will visit my friends there.

And friends are not the only reason why you should go on Erasmus+. Knowledge of school and experience are important as well! I was really interested to try to study in the different country. I wanted to see the way they teach and what do they teach there. It was worth that! I feel much more experienced now.

To summarize this, I want to say that you should not hesitate, just do it! I promise it will be worth that!
